Ahhh...the clean air, the peacefulness, and now retired in Skyforest. Retirement gives us the time for projects, such as restoring a vintage Shopsmith, remodeling our log home, or perhaps just dealing with what mother nature doles out while living at 6,000 feet. Welcome to the Skyforest Life.

Water Wheel Episode 5: Paint By Lumber

I'm back!  The Waterwheel project took a bit of a respite due to a late spring snow storm that dumped around 3 inches of snow and dropped the temperature to 28 degrees. This meant dragging all of the outside cushions back inside, covering the new plants, and protecting the drip system timers....then clearing out the snow and cleaning up after all of the winds.  Then, of course, putting everything back again.
All Eight Paddles Standing Guard

With sunny warm weather,  I'm finally back on course.  I finished building the remaining two paddles.

A)  Time to paint.

The paint is a brick-red color, which matches the cabin front door, various window surrounds,...and my blood type.
This is like watching paint dry

The painting took most part of a day.

So now we're waiting for the paint to dry...

Hope you are not in a hurry.

While we're waiting, this is a good time to announce the winner of the most creative response to this blog.  I had several creative suggestions, such as Dana's idea of re-routing water from our water fall (which required tunneling under the drive way) to drive the water wheel; Darryl's concept of making the wheel drive a grist mill in order to make fresh dough for his pizza; Clark's idea of connecting a drive wheel and chain to be used to winch up the snow blower when it gets stuck on the driveway; Cathy's idea of something other than a water wheel (such as a ferris wheel).

...I just checked...the paint is still tacky....

Anyway,  the most creative response and therefore the winner is Kathy's song adaptation:

"Camptown ladies sing this song: "Dado, dado",
The Rabbet joint is 8" long, oh dado day"

Old Water Wheel Mementos also Available for Sale
Congratulations, Kathy!  For your gift, you may have your choice of any piece from the original water wheel.  Good for mouting on a wall, or mounting on a plaque as a memento.

...but you must hurry as I need to take this crap to the dump soon.

Ok, paint is dry,  Now for the second coat (thought you could get off this easy?)  If this is your first time reading this paragraph, then go back to paragraph A) & re-read blog again to experience the application of the second coat.

...waiting for the second coat to dry...  anyone know a good joke?

...how 'bout those Dodgers, huh?

Oh! - I got one:

Two hunters in the woods standing by a big tree.  All of a sudden, one of the hunters falls to the ground - not moving at all.   The other hunter freaks out - can't seem to wake his friend - pulls out his phone and calls 9-1-1.

The dispatcher answers and the hunters says: "We were just standing here when my friend just falls down on the ground and...and he's not moving at all.  I...I...I think he's dead.  I don't know what to do.  What do I do?"

The dispatcher says:  "Now, now, take it easy.  I'll walk you through this step-by-step".

Hunter:  "OK, good"

Dispatcher:  "Now, the first thing we need to do is make sure he is really dead"

Hunter:  "Ok, hang on a minute..."

The next thing the dispatcher hears over the phone is: "click-click KABAM!"

The hunter gets back on the phone and says:  "OK...now what?"

OK, second coat is finally dry.  The paddles are ready for mounting.  See you on the next blog.
